Evacuation Order as Flooding Hits Australia’s Southern Most State

People in parts of northwest Tasmania have been ordered to evacuate as rivers rise, potentially to levels comparable to deadly flooding six years ago.
Heavy rain across the northern half of the island state began on Wednesday night and is not expected to ease until early Friday morning.
Residents of an area stretching from Liena to Latrobe were on Thursday evening ordered to evacuate if safe to do so, with the region’s Mersey River reportedly breaking its banks.
River peaks in some parts could reach levels seen in mid-2016 when flooding claimed the lives of three people and caused $180 million in damage….
