Los Angeles Council Delays Winter Recess by One Week

LOS ANGELES—The Los Angeles City Council voted Nov. 9 to move its winter recess back by a week to allow new council members to take part in one meeting before the break.
The council was originally set to begin its winter recess on Dec. 7, but it approved a motion by Council President Paul Krekorian to delay it until Dec. 14.
That would appear to set up a new election for council president on Dec. 13. Council rules state that an election for president should be held at the first council meeting after the second Monday in December in even-numbered years.
A representative for Krekorian told City News Service the recess was pushed back because election results can take 30 days to be certified. With the election taking place Nov. 8, 30 days would have taken the council into its recess….
