Jan. 6 Committee Proposes Charges Against 4 Lawmakers

Jan. 6 committee panel proposed charges on Dec. 19 in Washington against four U.S. Representatives related to the Jan. 6 Capitol breach.
Besides the suggested charges on then-President Donald Trump and his former advisor John Eastman, the Jan. 6 committee referred charges on House Minority Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), Rep. Scott Perry (R-Pa.), and Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.).
The first charge invoked for referral was an obstruction to an official proceeding, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) told the hearing, “which makes it unlawful for anyone to corruptly obstruct, influence, and impede any official proceeding of the U.S. government.”
The second charge invoked was a conspiracy to defraud the United States. Trump didn’t engage in a scheme to defraud the United States by himself, Raskin claimed; “he entered into agreements, formal and informal, with several other individuals who assisted him with his criminal objectives.”…
