Court Rulings Uphold Abortion Bans in Indiana, North Carolina
Abortion bans in the states of Indiana and North Carolina will take effect following court rulings on Friday.
In Indiana, the state’s Supreme Court ruled that the state’s abortion ban doesn’t violate the state constitution, and lifted a preliminary injunction that had been blocking a near-total abortion ban.
Indiana was the first U.S. state to approve and pass a bill into law banning most abortions, following the overturning of the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court in late June 2022.
